A lively group gathered in the University B conference room for the Taking STEAM to TASC Community of Practice meet-up on Friday, October 17. The group discussed ways to promote conversation and - most importantly - learn what our colleagues are doing when it comes to outreach that integrates art, science , culture and technology. We decided our first activity would be to put out a call for information about art-science programs with the goal of developing a list of examples we could learn from. In the meantime we'll continue the TASC ...

What kind of campaigns do you run, and how and when do you ask for donations? I've been developing the brand and marketing programs for the Rockville Science Center for over 3 years. Since then we have programs for Science Cafes, Robotics, Geology Walks, and Camps, as well as others. We've created value and can do more. However, running programs and soliciting for donations seem like two different functions. We have a donate button on our website, which is a very passive way to collect donations. Recently, ...

I'm curious about the blog feature for our newly formed CoP- so I'm trying it out. Facilitation is a big issue in the tinkering studio, one that is ongoing and takes concerted effort. I'm adding a working document we created about general facilitation. Look for a document called: Aspirations & Techniques for facilitating in the Tinkering Studio™: (things we think about when we’re working with visitors) Feel free to add suggestions & ask questions ~ I'd like to see us fill this out even further with thoughts and experiences from across our institutions. Blog posts on the tinkering studio website are also a good resource since ...
